Horse shoe Debate Statement
State your opinion
Do you agree or disagree with the decision of Victoria’s City Council to remove Sir John A Macdonald’s statue from City Hall?
Choose from one of the following and put it in a strong statement
Do you disagree, disagree strongly, agree or strongly agree
First Point:What is your primary reason for holding the opinion you hold. You are strongly encouraged to create a paragraph here using the lessons we learned from our work with “Powerful Paragraphs”.
Second Point:Your second point should be separate from your first point and in the form of a powerful paragraph, because you can’t just say something and drop the mic. You can drop the mic after you have articulated your point in a way that makes complete sense to others.
Third Point:This is your “knock-out punch” (to use a boxing metaphor). This is your point that has the most power and you want to ensure you explain it to the utmost.
Lastly, restate your position.
When we enter the debate arena, prepare to hear many points on either side of the argument and do yourself (and the world) a favor and consider the points you hear. I imagine as you hear the ideas of others, you may begin to see this issue differently, AND THAT IS OK.

The Rise and Fall of Blockbuster
Big Six Historical Thinking Strategies Practice
I can't quite explain why, but the history of Blockbuster fascinates me. You young people weren't around during the time of Blockbuster, and if you were, you were too young to remember it, but I remember it well. Let's take a historic look at Blockbuster and analyze the history through the big six historical thinking strategies. You can record your thoughts on a Word document on your laptop.
Historical Significance: What historical significance does Blockbuster represent when you consider the history of movies and home entertainment?
Primary Sources of Evidence: To learn about and understand the history of Blockbuster, what THREE amazing pieces of primary source evidence would you want to interact with?
Continuity and Change: How did Blockbuster change the entertainment world? Has anything continued that we can credit to Blockbuster?
Cause and Consequence: What caused Blockbuster to fail?
Historical Perspective: Looking back on what caused the ultimate failure of the company, what were the leaders of the company probably thinking when they were faced with a changing entertainment landscape?
Ethical Dimensions: Did the owners of the company do the right thing?
