Our school is aiming to include more student content in the monthly Spectrum publication. If any student in 7.1 or 7.2 is interested in extending their written and visual communication skills, Mr. Fawcett and Mr. Bennett are available to support you! The school wants to hear your voice and hear what experiences you enjoy and value here at Connect!
Students are engaged researchers at Connect. Our job as teachers is to introduce the research process to our students and help them develop the skills necessary to conduct meaningful research into the various topics they will cover. Scholastic.com has developed a slick list of 6 important things to consider when engaging in online research:
1. Check Your Sources The Skill: Evaluating information found in your sources on the basis of accuracy, validity, appropriateness for needs, importance, and social and cultural context. 2. Ask Good Questions The Skills: Developing and refining search queries to get better research results 3. Go Beyond the Surface The Skill: Displaying persistence by continuing to pursue information to gain a broad perspective 4. Be Patient The Skill: Displaying emotional resilience by persisting in information searching despite challenges 5. Respect Ownership The Skill: Respecting intellectual property rights of creators and producers 6. Use Your Networks The Skill: Using social networks and information tools to gather and share information The original article from Scholastic can be viewed here Please keep an eye on your inboxes, as Mr. B and I are in the process of sending out parent invitations to the Humanities and Math/Science Freshgrade portfolios. If you encounter any problems accepting the invites, it may have to do with the email you used to originally sign up with. Please let us know of any issues and we will do our best to help.
